Collector Settings

Collector configuration is where you tell the archive system how to access data from your site. Depending upon the type of email platform you are using, you may choose to process your email into the archive service using a PUSH model (SMTP) or a PULL model (POP3).

When SMTP collector is enabled on your ACCOUNT tab. A Configure SMTP Collectors option will be revealed on your COLLECTORS tab. Here you will be provided with a unique address to forward archived emails to the service for processing. You can also lock down the origination point of these emails by adding your servers external IP address(es) to the Trusted Network range

In the PULL scenario using POP3 you may need to make some modifications to your email server or firewall. Most organizations already have POP3 enabled, so all you need to do is make sure the POP3 port is accessible to the Internet.

You can create a simple secure firewall rule to only allow inbound SSL POP3 connections from the archive system's data centers. See the firewall configuration notes for more details.

Exchange Journal

Use the Exchange Journal (SMTP) option to collect data when envelope journaling is used in your environment. Use POP3 Journal to collect for all other non-envelope journaling configurations. SMTP collection will collect, index and archive emails up to 75MB in size by default.

Secure POP3 Journal

POP3 collectors are general purpose and automatically work with most servers. Use POP3 Journal for IMail, Scalix, SunOne, Zimbra and others. We recommend using POP3 against when supported by your email server(s).

Please review the configuration settings for firewall and email server configuration information.
